We are currently hunting in 3 concessions in the Niassa province of Mozambique. We are utilizing 2 hunting blocks within the Niassa reserve and 1 block bordering the Niassa reserve. Niassa is the jewel of big game hunting within Mozambique. All free range areas caters for some of the best dangerous game safaris in Africa. All our areas have an abundance of game , our camps are all of the East African tented style with ensuite bathrooms. Niassa has vast stretches of open savanah , mountains and hill country. Big herds of buffalo roam this plains together with an abundance of lion and leopard and plainsgame species. Most flights are direct to Lichinga and then road transfers to camp and back.
Our Zambezi river concession is located on the South Bank of the Cahorra Bassa lake and then also on the Zambezi river . The area consist of open savannah and some mountains but rather flatter ground that makes hunting not so difficult. All dangerous game and normal plainsgame species reside in the concession block. This areas are known for its giant crocodiles and plenty hippo .Our camps are also the East African tented style with ensuite bathrooms. major flights are direct to Tete.
The Mozambique Hunting season starts in May and ends in November.

Safaris are confirmed on receipt of 50 % of the total daily rate plus the Hunting License and Gov. License fee of the species chosen in order to secure the Safari. The balance of the daily rate plus additional charges are payable 60 days prior to the commencement of the safari and trophy fees are payable at the conclusion of the safari. Payment in camp must be made in cash or by bank transfers prior to the safari commencing.
Please note: All prices exclude 17%VAT
There will be no refund on any deposit paid, unless the hunt is cancelled no less than 180 days prior to the commencement of the safari and will be deducted 1.000.00 U.S.Dollars for administration expenses. See hunting contract for more details.
Due to the nature of Safari Hunting Activity in wild conditions, J P Big Game Safaris Pty Ltd, their employees, guides and affiliates, do not accept responsibility for any client or dependent thereof in respect of any loss,injury, illness, damage, accident, fatality, delay or inconvenience experienced.
Clients should arrange their own travel, medical and accident insurance. We accepts no liabilities whatsoever in regard to: Weather conditions, injuries or damage to persons and / or equipment.
- East African tented style accommodation in fully equipped private hunting camps
- The services of a P.H. (Professional Hunter)
- Fully equipped 4x4 safari vehicles
- Camp staff, skinners and trackers service
- All field preparation of trophies
- All ground transport in the hunting area
- All meals and standard drinks during contracted safari (accordingly with company policy)
- Meet and greet customs assistance at port of entry
- Government concession fees , community and conservation fees
Daily rates exclude:
- Animal License fees
- Animal Trophy fees (to be paid on all animals killed or wounded and lost)
- Lion and Leopard baits
- The cost of hunting license and firearms permits;
- The hire of firearms;
- Tanning, processing, packaging and transportation of trophies for exportation;
- Transfers from airport to base camp and back;
- Hotel accommodation before and after the hunt, if applicable;
- Air charters, immigration and / or customs fees.

Passport and Visas
Customs clearance is operative at your port of entry in Mozambique. You must have a passport, valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond intended departure from Mozambique and have two (2) blank pages in your passport. All non-Mozambique citizens MUST have a visa. Please ensure that your visa is valid atleast a week before and a week after the contracted period.Formore accurate information please consult the Official authorities.
Firearms importation into Mozambique
We recommend you consider booking with SAA direct from Johannesburg to Tete or to the closest airport to the hunting area where you will be hunting.It is of utmost importance that you give us your flight details 90 days before arrival as we need to arrange your fire arm import permits into Mozambique and this permit need to state port of arrival and departure. Also we need the exact amount of ammo you are bringing into Mozambique so we can add this onto your rifle import permit. There will be an amount of +- 4 $ per 375 calibre and up, tax on the airport for the ammo your are bringing along , this is a government tax not controlled by us. We can also recommend to plan your arrival and departure from Mozambique to fall within the week days and not on a weekend , this ensure that you travel with SAA.
Additional explanation regarding booking and deposits for hunts in Mozambique
The required paperwork and documentation has to be complete in our possession 90 days before the beginning of the safari:
Fees for the hunting license, animal license, Gov. License fee and gun import permits (all non-refundable), have to be paid separately in advance, additionally to the required deposit of the safari.
In case of a postponement of the safari starting date there is normally no charge if the safari is rebooked for the same year providing alternative opening dates are available.
Requests, of re-scheduling have to reach us a minimum of 90 days before the commencement of the safari
The following must reach us at least 90 days prior to the safari starting date:
- A complete trophy list for each hunter. (In order to obtain the relevant trophy permits)
- 2 passport photos of each hunter
- Full residential details of each hunter
- A photocopy of each hunter´s passport main pages
- Full details with regards to: make, serial number, caliber of each firearm/s and the number of ammo of each caliber
- Ammo: only 100 rounds allowed per caliber;
- The photographs may be taken digitally.
- The passport copies may be scanned and both can be emailed to us
- The required deposit and the funds for licenses and firearm permits.
We make every effort to ensure that our clients are fully aware of all costs involved on each hunt to avoid surprises.
Note! No traveler’s checks and no U.S. dollar bills issued before 2001 or U.S. dollars bills with “small Presidential heads” will be accepted in Mozambique! (Reserve Bank Rules).
Tips and gratitudes
This issue is a frequent question coming up by guests. Giving a tip or gratitude towards your PH or camp staff members is not compulsory but in the case of the guests wanting to do this , the following is suggested.
PH : $50 to $100 per safari day
Tracker : $10 to $20 per safari day
Camp staff in total : $20 to $50 per safari day
NOTE:License fees subject to changes as these are controlled and stipulated by the Mozambique Government
To ensure quota availability, all required trophy species must be reserved early.
Animals wounded or lost will be paid in full.
All animals taken for bait will be charged 50 % of the trophy fee except if the animal is a trophy then the charge will be 100 % of the trophy fee.
